Cricket World Cup 2019 began on May 30, 2019 and the tournament has produced so many breathtaking encounters so far. England defeated South Africa in the opening match of the tournament with comfort then West Indies shocked Pakistan in the next match. New Zealand started their World Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Sri Lanka. India started the tournament in a great manner by defeating South Africa comfortably, and Bangladesh made an impressive start to the competition by beating South Africa in a thrilling encounter.
This cricket world cup has been full of surprises and shocks, and there were many unexpected results that made this tournament even more exciting to watch. South Africa is a major shock of the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the African nation have won just two games in the competition and are already out of the tournament, making it their poorest performance in the Cricket World Cup history.
The mega event is heading towards the climax and the six major teams of the tournament are fighting their way to enter the semi-final stage of the coveted trophy.
The tournament has entered into the stage where we cannot really predict who will be the ultimate winner of the competition. Australia is the only team at the moment to have sealed their place in the semis and the major teams, including England, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have chances of progressing to the semi-final stage with certain results going their way.
India and New Zealand are just a win away from sealing their place into the semis, while the situation is tricky for England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, if they are to qualify for the last four.
England will need to win both of their remaining matches against India and New Zealand to progress further into the tournament. India need to win at least one match of their remaining three matches against Bangladesh, England, and Sri Lanka to progress to the knock-out stage of the competition. New Zealand also need to win at least one match from their remaining two matches against India and England. The current scenario is very complicated for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Pakistan need to win both of their remaining matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and should also hope that England and Bangladesh lose one of their remaining matches if Pakistan are to go any further.
The situation is very much the same for Bangladesh, as they need to win both of their remaining matches against India and Pakistan and they also have to make sure that England and Pakistan lose one of their remaining matches to give green signal to Bangladesh to go through to the knock-out stages of the World Cup.
Sri Lanka is facing the worst situation, as they have to win their remaining two matches against West Indies and India convincingly, and they also have to make sure that Pakistan, England and Bangladesh lose at least one of their remaining matches for Sri Lanka to progress through the final stages.
Based on the current scenario, it is likely that India, New Zealand, and England will progress through and join Australia for the semi-final stage of the competition, but with so many unexpected results so far, we can expect anything to happen in this world cup.
The chances of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are bleak, but cricket has always been an unpredictable game. The biggest upset happened in the Cricket World Cup 1983 when India defeated the mighty West Indies in the final to lift the coveted trophy, and shocked the entire world. Pakistan were almost eliminated in the group stage of the 1992 Cricket World Cup, but came back strongly and won the competition, courtesy of some luck, favourable results and pure determination.
Sri Lanka were underdogs at the 1996 Cricket World Cup, but displayed excellent skills to win the tournament they were never expected to win. The Cricket World Cup 2019 is still up for grabs for the major teams and we might witness unexpected results in the future and an underrated team winning the trophy.
